Czech anti-Roma marches

Hundreds of neo-Nazis gathered in cities all over the Czech Republic for anti-Roma marches on the last weekend of August, leading to clashes with the police and at least 75 arrests.

Since April, there have been nine of these marches all over the country, according to Amnesty International (AI) and the European Roma Rights Centre (ERRC). In a press release, they expressed their concern about the situation of the 150,000 to 300,000 Roma in the Czech Republic, many of whom are impoverished and facing continuous discrimination. “Czech authorities must protect Roma communities from violence and intimidation”, they urged. Human-rights activists staged counter-demonstrations in Prague and multiple other cities.
