Wizz Air takes over after Malev fallout

In the wake of Malev Hungarian Airlines’ demise in February, low-cost carrier Wizz Air has announced that it has doubled its fleet at Budapest Ferenc Liszt International.

To compensate for the traffic vacuum, it begins service from Debrecen in June and from Ljubljana in October, as well as offers new destinations like Milan’s Malpensa airport.

Meanwhile Budapest Airport’s Terminal 1 will be closed temporarily as of 30 May to accommodate the loss in passenger traffic. All passengers will depart and arrive from the larger Terminal 2, until further notice.
