In a first-ever art phenomenon, the Viennese artist Alex Kiessling will use advanced robotic technology to simultaneously create three free-hand drawings in three different cities: Vienna, London and Berlin.

On 26 September the artist will be working in the Ovalhalle, at MuseumsQuartier, where his movements will be captured by sensors and transmitted via satellite to two robots, one stationed on Berlin’s Breitscheidplatz, the other on Trafalgar Square, replicating his drawing in real time. Spectators at any of the locations can follow the events in the other two cities, with a live stream being shown on two giant screens.

“The Long Distance Art project is designed to focus attention on Vienna’s vibrant contemporary art scene,” commented Norbert Kettner, CEO of the Vienna Tourist Board, “drawing a contrast with the rich cultural heritage that the Austrian capital is famous for.”
