William Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew will be performed outdoors at Palais Liechtenstein. This much-acclaimed production, staged by TNT theatre Britain and touring with the American Drama Group Europe (ADG Europe), it will only show in Vienna on 26 June. Don’t miss this chance!

In one of Shakespeare’s most famous comedies, the beautiful Bianca cannot be wooed until her sister, the tempestuous shrew Kate, has been married off —considered an impossible feat, given her willful and wild nature.

Bianca’s would-be suitors, who will go to ridiculous lengths to win her hand, plot to have Kate wed some ill-fated fool. The suitors coax their fortune-hunting friend Petruchio into taking on the challenge. When he hears of Kate’s large dowry, he makes it his aim to “tame” the strong-willed Kate.

Throughout the play, Shakespeare explores serious themes of human existence including female submissiveness, men’s hypocrisy, gender relations, and the balance of power between husband and wife.

ADG Europe’ calls this production their most hilarious play, the press commend the troupe’s playful use of Commedia dell’arte or classical Italian Clowning and live Renaissance music. Revived specifically for the National Grand Theatre of China and a smashing success on its Chinese tour, the production is now on a Europe-wide castle tour.
