Former journalist and author Hans Henning Scharsach was one of the most outspoken critics of the late Jörg Haider. For his recent book Strache. Im braunen Sumpf (Strache in the Brown-Shirted Swamp) Scharsach meticulously gathered evidence of Freiheitliche Partei Österreichs (FPÖ) party leader Heinz Christian Strache’s connections to right-wing extremists.

In the upcoming October issue of TVR, the best-selling author discusses his work, the potential of Strache’s FPÖ, and the role of the Austrian media to Strache’s success..

“Journalists are not politicians, and the media have no obligation to better the world. They are companies, and their business is to spread information. And at the same time, information is the most important building block of democracy.”

“The book is meant to deliver facts to society at large, a necessity in the fight against right-wing extremism and populism. Also, it is a way of shifting the risk of lawsuits to the author, that is, to me.”

The October 2012 issue hits the stands Friday, 28 Sept.
