VIENNA LIT BOOK GROUP

This month, Vienna Lit’s book group reads The Maid’s Version by Daniel Woodrell. This is Woodrell’s first novel since the celebrated Winter’s Bone.

All are welcome. Please also bring along the first page of a book that you’d like to read with the group for November – without disclosing the author’s name or title!

Emeritus Professor at the University of Warwick, Lord Skidelsky gives a talk entitled: “How Much is Enough? The Love of Money and the Case for the Good Life”. Beginning with the Keynesian model, Lord Skidelsky looks at how our lives have strayed from the ideal of minimal working hours. How much is enough? The talk shares its subject with Robert Skidelsky and Edward Skidelsky’s book of the same name.

Stanford Professor Ian Morris looks at the paradoxical status of war, which has not just harmed, but also helped humanity – and whether it can continue to do so in the present. The title – while clearly echoing the anti-war song – is also the name of Professor Morris’ new book.
