The Return of Ian Fisher

Supported by Philipp Szalay, Ian will be taking part in British Bookshop’s “Songs Between the Pages” series. Born in the U.S., Fisher is doing a short tour of Austria with this being his only appearance in Vienna that he is headlining.

Szalay is the opening act and is a local product of Austria, though this will be his first ever Vienna appearance. www.myspace.comianfishermusic.

The new book, with the same title, delves into the branding of ethnicity. Cultural identities and themes are used to market and push products. Written by John L. and Jean Comaroff, this forum should sufficiently look into these identity, capitalist, and cultural clashes.

For six years, poetry fans have been meeting at Vienna’s Rhiz Bar where they either present or listen to texts. On the occasion of Christmas and New Year’s, DJ Mieze Medusa as well as the moderators Yasmin Hafedh & Schlögl will present the PostWeihnacht Prä Silvester Slam.

If you’d like to take the challenge, bring two texts with you and be prepared to impress the audience and the jury for five minutes with your text. See the website for more information.

Everyone is welcome at the Vienna Lit Bookgroup’s discussions of contemporary literary texts that take place every month.

In December, The Last Warner Woman by Kei Miller, a novel about the art of storytelling will be discussed. Winter’s Bone by Daniel Woodrell, featured in a film version at last month’s Viennale, will be talked about in January. Besides these discussions, the Vienna Lit Bookgroup organizes readings, workshops, performances, as well as poetry slams.
