NEW READING ROOM FOR RESEARCHERS

At the Austrian National Library’s newly opened Ludwig-Wittgenstein-Research Reading Room, scientists can conduct their research with a view on Burggarten. The room, with 64 desks, is reserved for researchers only and houses an open access library, a scanner, storage depots and WLAN.

VIENNA LIT BOOK GROUP

This month, Vienna Lit studies David Nicholls’ best-selling comedic/dramatic novel One Day, which follows Emma and Dexter’s interactions from college graduation through the next 20 years. Will they reconnect in the future – this time, for good? Author Tony Parsons described it as “a brilliant book about the heartbreaking gap between the way we were and the way we are.” Refreshments provided by Bobby’s Foodstore. Free entry.

BLOOMSDAY CELEBRATION

Bloomsday annually commemorates the life of James Joyce, reliving events from his novel Ulysses. Join the all-day celebrations of the 90th anniversary of its publication, and 30 years of English-language bookshop Shakespeare and Company Booksellers, with books, bread, cheese, brownies, tea and coffee.

PORTRAITS OF TIME AND PLACE

Uncover the true character of the Viennese and their city, and learn the art of cultural journalism. In this four-day workshop, The Vienna Review’s Publisher and Editor in Chief, Dardis McNamee, will share her longstanding journalistic expertise and guide you in creating portraits of Vienna, with the possibility of publication. From conducting interviews, to techniques of description, narrative and structure, you will acquire all necessary tools for the craft of writing creative non-fiction. Early registration fee is €498, before 3 June.

MOVE YOUR ASS & YOUR PEN WILL FOLLOW

Relax, take a deep breath, and let ideas flow naturally from mind to paper. Yoga teacher and writing instructor Eva Karel leads participants through exercises designed to flex physical and mental muscles. Afterwards, grab a pencil and paper, and capture the stream of thoughts produced by a relaxed body and mind. Light snacks and yoga mats provided. Wearing comfortable clothing is recommended. €25 per session, or €100 for five.
