Letters to the Editor: November 2006

To the Editor,

Yesterday I bought a copy of The Vienna Review. I think the paper is excellent! Far better than any previous Austria-based English language newspaper that I have seen, and certainly better than many of the Austrian papers. Congratulation to all of you for this project!

To the Editor,

Congratulations on a shaky but intellectually stimulating start!

Aside from the obvious lapses, there is however, a real problem with copyediting. If The Vienna Review is going to be successful, this aspect is going to have to be addressed with all due professional discipline. That said, I liked Paul Krauskopf’s contributions; he writes well.  And the ORF article by Konstantin Borovlev and Dardis McNamee was excellent.

The real question I think is whether a student publication can be competitive. In the music business the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester and The Chamber Orchestra of Europe have demonstrated that students can succeed at competing with the best, with positions coveted by young people all over Europe and beyond, and uncompromising professional standards.
