Young terrorist arrested

The Austrian Mohamed Mahmoud, who posted a video in March threatening Austria and the rest of Europe, has been arrested in the Turkish province of Hatay near Syria, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

In the video, the 28-year-old Mahmoud appears wearing a military vest and holding an AK-47, announcing attacks against cities, trains, and parliaments. He then proceeds to burn his Austrian passport in front of the camera.

He was arrested carrying a forged Libyan passport as he was attempting to disappear across the border to Syria. Prior to this incident he had been arrested in Austria in 2007 for being a leader of the Global Islamic Media Front, which creates and distributes terrorist propaganda videos. After a prison term he migrated to Germany and was recently thought to be in Egypt.

Born in Vienna, he has dissociated himself from Austria, claiming that he has nothing in common with Austrian culture and attitudes.
