The Great Book Robbery

Benny Brunner’s new film tells the story of 70,000 Palestinian books, which were “collected” in 1948 by the Israeli national library and the Haganah, which became the Israeli army.

The film traces where these books came from, and how the Israeli library came to catalogue them as “Abandoned Property”. The context of the 1948 war is important. The filmmakers say, The Palestinians “were forbidden to study their own culture or to remember their immediate past; their memory was seen as a dangerous weapon that had to be suppressed and controlled.” 57 minutes. In English and Hebrew with English subtitles.
